Tags, links, search & tasks
The cross-cutting features that work across your whole hierarchy instead of inside a single container — tags, item links, tasks, and global search.
The container hierarchy answers "where is it." These four features answer everything else — what it's related to, what needs doing about it, and how to find it again without walking the tree.
Tags
Tags are per-user labels that cut straight across the hierarchy, wherever the tagged items happen to live — "fragile" finds every fragile item across every container at once, no matter how deeply any one of them is nested. Each tag gets a color, so tagged items are visually distinct on cards, detail pages, and in the image lightbox, not just filterable in a list.
Manage tags at /settings/tags — rename one, change its color, or merge
two tags into one when you've ended up with near-duplicates ("fragile" and
"breakable" pointing at the same idea). Merging moves every item's
association over to the target tag and removes the source, so nothing gets
double-tagged in the process. An item can carry up to 20 tags, which is
more headroom than most single items will ever need.
Tags also show up while you're actively adding things, not just when managing them — the tag picker in the capture flow surfaces your most-used and most-recently-used tags first, so tagging something as you photograph it is usually a tap on an existing tag rather than typing one out again.
Item links
Sometimes two items are related in a way the container hierarchy just can't express, because they don't live in the same place: a remote that belongs to a TV in another room, a charging cable that goes with a laptop stored somewhere else entirely, a spare part for something three closets away. Item links handle exactly that — link two items together with an optional note, and the link shows up from both sides, so finding either one surfaces the other.
Tasks
Tasks attach to a specific item — "return to Sarah," "buy a replacement filter," "get this appraised." Add one inline while creating the item, or attach one to an existing item any time later; there's no separate task-creation flow to learn.
The Tasks tab lists everything across your whole inventory, grouped into pending and completed sections. Check one off inline without leaving the list, or click through to the parent item for context on what the task was actually about. Drag tasks into whatever order matters to you, the same way you'd reorder items inside a container — the most urgent thing on the list doesn't have to be whichever one you happened to add first.
Search
Global search spans both items and tasks at once, and results for items come back with their container path attached — so a match tells you not just that it exists, but where it is, without an extra click to check. Narrow a search by container, by a date range, or by tag, depending on whether you're trying to find something in particular or just browsing a slice of your inventory. The Search link lives in the header, available from anywhere in the app.
